Plant your trees in Iceland

Plant Your Own Trees in Iceland and help with the reforestation of Iceland and the fight against soil erosion and climate change. 

You will meet up with the team at Plant a Tree in Iceland and plant trees at our forestry plot just outside the town of Þorlákshöfn. The plot is ideally located for a short stop on your way around the Golden circle, onto the South coast, or just after arriving or before departing Iceland.

This plot was chosen specifically for this project due to the severe soil erosion affecting this area. By planting trees there we can help bind the soil which in turn helps other vegetation to settle and grow. It is also our part of helping with the reforestation of Iceland. At the time of settlement, it is believed that 25-30% of the land was covered with trees of some sorts. It is believed that excessive forestry during the settlement era and onwards, saw Iceland's forests disappear. Today only a small fraction of the land is covered with trees. Planting trees is also one of the easiest and best ways to fight climate change.

The tree planting session will take about 30 minutes up to an hour depending on how many guests will be planting. We use Pottiputki tools to plant the trees which makes planting a very easy and fun thing to do for the whole family.
